“I think it’s very important to be able to see the funny side of life….” Pope Benedict XVI
Since there are some one-billion Catholics in the world and roughly the same number of Catholic blogs, I figured another one more or less wouldn’t overtax the blogosphere.
Once upon a time, I wrote a column called “Rocking the Cradle Catholic” for Patrick Madrid’s Envoy magazine. It was something of an intellectual palate cleanser among the magazine’s richer offerings on Catholic teaching. Okay, so “intellectual” is a little much. It was just a wise-cracking palate cleanser you didn’t have to think too hard about after a meaty piece of apologetics.
Much of what I wrote back in the day was about having my world rocked while discovering a heritage hidden in plain sight, just waiting for me to appreciate it.
I’m no longer the catechetical illiterate I once was, but there are still other things that rock my cradle Catholic world, and make me laugh at myself and our Catholic selves in general. So, I’ve decided to bring “Rocking the Cradle Catholic” back as—you guessed it—Catholic blog #998,972,983 (or thereabouts).
